Artist's Statement

This console table is part of my senior project, whose main objective was to design a collection for a boutique hotel in Japan. The focus of the collection is to create something that is uniquely Japanese. I sought inspiration directly from traditional Japanese architecture, interiors, and furniture and introduced some modernity to them. The Torii Console is meant to be a hallway table in the lobby area of a boutique hotel. Its main inspiration comes from "torii", the traditional gate seen at many sacred Buddhist temples in Japan.
